No Progress
April 16th, 2008 by Jason ChenMost teams are keeping their eyes on the playoffs right now, which means less speculation as most teams are keeping their eyes on potential UFAs who are playing well in the playoffs… more specifically, Ryan Malone. The left winger is drawing lots of interest from teams and the Pens will try to re-sign him, although that could come at the cost of one Marian Hossa. The Pens do not have sufficient cap-room to retain both, unless one comes back with a significant pay cut.
The other winger that is drawing some interest is Radim Vrbata, reports the Arizona Republic. The Czech winger had a career year this season with Phoenix, potting 27 goals. Vrbata has benefited from an average Phoenix lineup and has been the main go-to scoring winger for the Coyotes. Vrbata will fetch a good price on this year’s market, but the Coyotes have expressed interest in having him back for next year, and the feeling is mutual. After all, the Coyotes do have a wealth of young talent in Martin Hanzal, Peter Mueller, and Kyle Turris, who is expected to crack the lineup next year.
