Olli on the Move, No Quenneville for Sharks
June 1st, 2008 by Jason ChenHNIC’s Satellite Hotstove and various papers around the league have suggested that Olli Jokinen will be suiting up for a different team come training camp. The disgruntled forward was obviously not happy when Jacques Martin got the extension, and has been stuck in career limbo, not having played a single NHL playoff game. He will attract plenty of interest from teams looking for a #1 centre, although that would mean accommodating his hefty salary. Martin has to watch what he gets in return for Jokinen, as he doesn’t want to make a mistake like Mike Keenan did with the Roberto Luongo trade, but even if he gets a good return this would set the Panthers back, considering after trading Jokinen their new number one centre would be either Nathan Horton or Stephen Weiss. Teams that have been rumoured to be interested are Calgary, Vancouver, Ottawa, and Minnesota.
After meeting with the Sharks, apparently Joel Quenneville wasn’t impressed. Details aren’t known, as the meeting was supposed to be a secret one, until a fan pointed Quenneville out on a flight to San Jose. This doesn’t mean Quenneville has closed the door on San Jose though, but it does mean that perhaps San Jose should be contemplating their other options before re-negotiating with him.

Quenneville wasn’t impressed? Are you sure it wasn’t the other way around? From Doug Wilson’s description of what he’s looking for in a new coach, Quenneville doesn’t fit the bill.

I heard he wasn’t impressed with the monetary amount Wilson offered. I don’t necessarily think the Sharks have to hire someone that fits Wilson’s bill, but rather just anyone other than Ron Wilson.
